THE ITALIAN FUR INDUSTRY IN DECLINE (ITALY)

The italian fur industry association has recently revealed the “Pambianco report”, with interesting datas on the fur and fur garments market in Italy for 2008, with previsions for 2009.

We already saw some decline in the use of fur during 2007, but 2008 has been a year of deep crisis for this market in Italy and elsewhere. The decline in the sales has been of 8%, with a 9% more drop in sales expected for 2009. This makes a significant drop of 17% in just two years.

As written in the report:

*Fur trims are definitely no more a novelty in the fashion system.

*Fur companies had a significant drop in sales and revenues, with some of them ceasing activity.

*Fur shops and fur companies are now only 28% of the italian fur market

*61% of the fur market is in the hand of general fashion companies, who sell mostly just trimmmed clothing and not proper fur coats (the analysis of the market is made on revenues and not on the number of pelts, so 61% of the income of the “fur market” is from trimmed clothing by normal fashion companies and not all-fur clothing).

So, what else do we need to know to understand that fighting to make a company like Max Mara Fashion Group fur-free is the right strategy?

They are one of the leading companies in that 61% of the fur market. That 61% is made of companies who do not live out of fur, who can decide to stop using fur from one day to the other without any repercussions. This would mark the end of the fur industry as we know it, surviving to this day only thanx to the use of trims by normal fashion companies.

The decline is clear:

less fur farms
less fur shops
less revenues…

It’s time to fight and smash the fur industry!
