MAXMARA DEMO IN ANTWERP, (BELGIUM)
Saturday the 14th of february, two darling dogs and six very devoted activists were standing in front of the Max Mara shop in the Huidevetterstraat 23 in Antwerp, Belgium. Max Mara is a big brand with 2300 stores spread over the world. We want Max Mara to introduce a no fur policy starting this winter collection.
That's why we were standing in front of their store with petition lists. Our slogan was "Valentine, stop the pain". We reached many people's attention and didn't receive one negative comment. We took picture boxes along with many good animal pictures and the people who passed by were moved by the pictures. With over 300 signatures, it only went better and better. People spontaneously started talking with us and were asking how you can recognise real fur, because no one wanted real fur in their clothes anymore. We were thrilled to hear that. The people understood how horrible it is to be processed from animal to fur. All who came by shared the same opinion that real fur has to go.
Local television came by and newspapers came as well. The employees at Max Mara didn't have any problems with us. We were friendly and polite and they continued doing their job. One employee was looking at us and I had the impression she was looking at us with respect. It moved us! A little 5 year old girl came to us with her mother and said "Oh animals" and her mother said "These people are gathering signatures so the animals wont feel pain anymore."
The child smiled at one of the activists and her mother signed the petition immediatly. In total it was one big positive action and reaction!
